Meet our signature variegated masterpiece: Anthurium Rusty Long RL
Hello everyone, I’m Win from Ginny Garden in Bangkok, Thailand. Lately, I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the number of requests we've received about our available plants. To help answer your questions and share a bit of what we do here, I want to formally introduce you to a very special project of ours: the Anthurium Rusty Long RL.
For those of you who share our passion for rare aroids, the Rusty Long RL is our signature line of variegated anthuriums. It is a plant we have poured a lot of love into, and I am thrilled to finally share its story with the worldwide collecting community.
The genetics behind the beauty
In our breeding program, lineage is everything. The Rusty Long RL comes from a very specific and carefully cultivated cross:
The Mother: Our original "Rusty Long." While I don't have her exact lineage on paper, our work with her suggests she is a beautiful Papillilaminum hybrid. Because some of her seedlings exhibit a closed sinus, we strongly suspect there is some Forgetii DNA in her background as well.
The Father: The renowned Papillilaminum RL (pollen).
I am often asked about the original Rusty Long mother plant. Right now, she is resting. She gave so much energy to produce the beautiful seedlings we have in the nursery, and she is currently taking the time she needs to recover. This makes the offspring we currently have even more special to us.
Striking visual characteristics
If you have visited our nursery, you might know that the camera doesn't always do these colors justice! However, there are a few consistent traits that make the Rusty Long RL stand out:
Emergent Colors: The new leaves emerge in deep, rich shades ranging from pink and red all the way to a dark chocolate color.
Intense Variegation: As the leaves mature and harden off, the variegation settles into a beautiful pink-to-peach tone. Against the dark backdrop of the mature leaf, this intense pink creates a stunning contrast. I’ve noticed that clones with the darkest leaves tend to produce the most vibrant pink variegation.
Red Stems: The beautiful coloring extends all the way down the plant, featuring distinct, bright red stems.
How to add one to your collection
Because of the overwhelming interest, we are slowly releasing a limited batch of offset cuttings. Most of these healthy, established cuttings feature two to four leaves.
To ensure you know exactly what you are getting, every single cutting comes with a numbered tag on the back, indicating exactly which mother clone it was taken from (for example, clone #41). Whether you prefer a brighter, highly variegated specimen or a darker-leafed clone, there is a unique variation for every collector.
Availability A few of our medium-to-large three-leaf cuttings have just been taken and will be fully rooted and ready just in time for the Bangkok Plant Show on June 12th, 2026.
If you are interested in securing one for your own collection, you can watch my recent video showcase to see the exact numbered clones we currently have available. Just take a screenshot of your favorite one and send us a direct message—we would love to chat with you about it.
Thank you all for your continued support and for letting us share our garden with you!
